Our State can and should benefit from oil, wind, water, and coal.  We need to look closely at
our resources and use each one to our advantage.  We must continue to explore new sources
of power as we have started with wind farms while not causing harm to our environment.  I will
pursue and support legislation which opens new avenues to energy independence.

Instead of giving tax breaks to the rich and to large companies, we need to be investing this
money back into Oklahoma. We need to invest in the infrastructure of the State.  We need to invest in
the retirement for our teachers, our firefighters, and our state employees.  Three years ago,
Oklahoma had a billion dollar surplus.  Today, we can barely scrape up $100 million to pay our bills.
Tax breaks for the average middle class citizen averaged $7.  I will find ways to increase our State’s
financial base so we can meet our obligations.  As a state and nation, we would rather give huge tax
breaks to oil companies, pharmaceutical companies, and sports teams than investing the money in the
people of our state.  Many of these companies took the tax breaks and their jobs relocating to faraway
places.  Other companies took the tax breaks and are making 500% profits.

When Governor Henry was elected five years ago, one of his main goals was to bring
teachers’ salaries up to the regional average.  This has yet to be done.  We are still far behind.
Legislators approved some pay raises, but then did not fund them.  School systems are still
struggling to pay the raises our teachers have earned.  Education is the future of our children
and our State.  We cannot allow it to die on the vine like an under-watered tomato. When we
fund our education system, we will make it grow and flourish and supply our State with well
educated men and women.  Each of these persons is our investment in the proud heritage of
    this state we call home.

We are $9 billion behind in the repair of our roads and bridges.  The $38 million allotted this
past session will do little to fix the problem.  It is time we get serious about using our resources
efficiently.   How many bridges have to fail and how many people are injured or killed before we
see the need to do something? How many of us have had damage to our cars because of
potholes?   How many more accidents will have to occur?  Let’s have a State which is known for its
good roads and bridges.  It is time we get smart about how and how much of our tax dollars are
    spent.
Smart Roads and Bridges
We have over 600,000 men, women, and sadly to say, children in Oklahoma without any
form of health insurance.  We have many thousands of others who have only minimal coverage.  If
families are unable to pay for basic doctors’ visits, they are often forced to delay care before
ending up in the more expensive emergency room.  These costs are then shared by all
Oklahomans with health insurance.  It would be less expensive for us to support legislation to
make health care accessible for all.  The life expectancy of the Oklahoma people is becoming the
shortest in the Nation.  Oklahoma has some of the greatest hospitals and health professionals
anywhere, we have state-of-the-art medical care, and we’re even building a new cancer care
center at the OU Health Sciences Center.  But if you cannot afford insurance, you can’t participate
in the cure.  We are the strongest and richest nation in the world; it is wrong for us to deny basic
human rights.   I will work with others in the legislature to make access to medical care possible for
    everyone.
